During the late 1800s Germany and Italy where both in the process of being unified. There are many differences and similarities between the two unifications. Three major differences and similarities are the strategies that the leaders of the counties used, how nationalism effected the unification, and what happened before the unification.
The two leaders that led these counties to unification were Otto von Bismarck and Count Camillo Cavour. Bismarck helped to unify Germany and Cavour helped to unify Italy. They were both strong believers in Realpolitik. Bismarck was the prime minister of Prussia and hoped to unify Germany so that Prussia had the dominate rule. Both Bismarck and Cavour fought wars to unify their counties. Bismarck used taxes to strengthen Germany's army.
