I got to experience the real African music in this class. From watching the videos, listening to the class discussions, reading the article, and listening to the music have made me realized that African music is very complex. I use to think that African music is simple and easy, and all they use are drums and bells, but the truth is that African music is not as easy as it seems to be. Of course drums and bells are important but more important are the beats, rhythms and voices. When the music is played by the native Africans, it sounds very beautiful and passionate.
African people are brought up under very strong music influences, they know many types of instruments. From the first video that we saw in class, it introduced just a few basic types of instruments. For example; rattles, bells and drums. When these three instruments are played in the right way, they will create some very good music.
