In "A Doll's House" Nora Helmer comes to realise her unexamined life of a domestic life. Her marriage is put to the test when she begins to question the foundations of her beliefs having been governed firstly her father then when married by her husband. Nora has done the forbidden deed of borrowing money and from a man of ill repute named Krogstad. Nora forges her father's signature and is then able to pay for a trip to Italy for the sake of her husband's health (he is unaware of his condition and the loan, believing that the money came from Nora's father). Since then she has been desperate to find ways to pay back the loan.
Synopsis
"X Act one opens with Christmas Eve where we learn that Torvald has been promoted to manager of the bank that will increase his pay. On receiving this news Nora is on a high for she can now pay off the loan, however is soon brought down again by an unimpressed Krogstad who has been removed from his position at the bank. He is to be replaced by Mrs Linde an old friend of Nora who has come to town in search of work. Krogstad threatens to reveal her dirty secret if she does not get his job back. Using all of her feminine tricks that Torvald often encourages, Nora still fails to convince him to keep Krogstad at the bank...
