There were mainly three different eras in the 20th century artwork. The artwork somewhat mixes together in many different ways. For example their techniques, and styles vary. The eras are impressionism 1860-1910, classical modernism 1900-1950, and contemporary painting, which happened in 1945 to the present. These categories overlie in sequential order. The artists in these eras paint whatever they want to paint not thinking of any rules or regulations. They often paint the way past time painter's paint. There is no real way to characterize these painters and painting. There are five t rends that fit these artworks into categories and make them easier to understand. One is a continued interplay either reactionary or "taking it up a notch" or with 19th century Romanticism with the whole idea of the "back to the nature" thought and also the idea of noble savage...
