The MLDA, as it is commonly referred toas, has been a controversial issue ever since the
1850's and is constantly being disputed. The minimum legal drinking age is not only
weak but easily avoidable too. Drinking age laws are 100% wrong. They only serve as a form
of discrimination against legal adults of eighteen to twenty. An eighteen-year-old man is
a full citizen capable of voting, marrying, fighting for their country, serving in juries, smoking,
buying porn, or even starring in their own XXX film, but that same person cannot legally have a
beer until they are twenty-one. Drinking in moderation should be emphasized more in our
schools and youth organizations today rather than restriction. It is becoming easier for young
adults to acquire alcohol from the use of fake identification card, commercial and social
sources, and a lack of police enforcement. I am moved deeply that youths today and 100 years
ago have been treated so poorly. Why are we "mature" enough to fight and possibly die in a war
but cannot legally purchase our own beer?
