Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi (later dubbed Mahatma, 'great soul') was one of the most influential men of all time. He was chosen as the topic for this essay for many reasons. He played a major role in the recognition of Indian people in South Africa and in the freedom of India and Pakistan from British rule. This was achieved through a new from of non-violent protest, which Gandhi called Satyagraha, or 'devotion to truth'. Gandhi once said, "Non-cooperation with evil is as much a duty as cooperation with good." This method continues to be used today. Gandhi's deeds touched people from all spheres in all nations. This was displayed in Albert Einstein when he said, "Generations to come will scarce believe that such a one as this ever in flesh and blood walked upon this earth."
