Introduction:
In this lab activity, we did an experiment with pendulums. We wanted to find out the variable that would affect how the pendulum swings. We needed to know what would affect how fast or slow it went. After we tested three variables, changing one each time we test, the result was that the main variable that affected the pendulum's cycles was the length of string. I found out that the number of cycles increased each time we shortened the string.
Question:
What variable: weight, string length, or angle dropped will affect the rate at which the pendulum cycles?
Hypotheses:
I think that the string length will affect the number cycles a pendulum swings the most.
Materials:
A string around forty five cm long
three washers
one pencil
masking or duct tape
a flat surface (a table would be good)
a timing device (such as a stop watch)
paper
a pencil
writing utensils (pens or pencils)
a paper clip
a ruler
a protractor
Procedure:
1. Gather all your materials and tie the string on to the pencil. You should tie the string onto the edge of the pencil near the metal to keep the string form falling off...
