I. Maya Angelou's I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings evoked many different emotions for me. I felt anger and sadness for the way Marguerite was treated as a child. She handled most of her misfortunes with maturity and grace. On the other hand, I felt very happy and found myself applauding her. She always kept her focus and did the best she could with what her life gave her. She was preparing herself for the future by reading, working, and listening intently. She worked in the Store in Stamps with her grandmother, brother, and uncle. During that time she took in as much information as possible, whether it was the latest gossip she would hear in the Store or focusing on a new book to read. I felt like she did well for herself, especially considering the circumstances of her life and the way things were during that time period...
