God bless America, what does this really mean? Does it mean that God blesses North and South America collectively? But if so, then why do only those who live in North America get to call themselves Americans, while those who live in Brazil are called Brazilians and those in Venezuela, Venezuelans. Although, by definition an American is someone who lives in North or South America or someone that lives in the United States, but as someone that lives in North America, I never recognized anyone from South America as an American. We are taught to label those who live in South America by the country that they come from. But then we get back to the sole purpose of this statement, God Bless America. Do we as Americans see ourselves as the dominate country in which only we can be blessed? Questions like these puzzle me as I sit here for the first time and realize what's been under my nose all along.
I was once told that America, the United States of America to be exact, was one of the most powerful countries in the world. I'm sure that I was not the only one who was brought up with that notion, but on September 11, 2001, two planes flew into the twin towers in New York City, thus proving that we were no longer invincible...
