As a society, we have set up a system of laws that punish crimes based on their severity. On one end, these laws and punishments can be fairly modest and common, like getting a ticket for driving too fast. As we move across the spectrum, these punishments become more complex and severe as the crime committed becomes more extreme and violent. The most severe of punishments that various states governed by law can impose is the death penalty, and this is only imposed for the most heinous of crimes.. Although imposing death on another human being is something to be avoided at all costs, it remains as the only form of justice in certain situations, and therefor should be allowed in the state of Michigan.
Laws are created in order to keep society in balance. This balance not only works on a national level, but also on an individual level. It is this harmony that allows us to feel safe, to live happily, and to know that if someone were to break these laws, justice will be served. There is, however, a fundamental weakness with these laws we have created. The whole system is imperfect because it was created by humans, thus making it based on interpretation..
