The story of the life of Salvador Dali is an intriguing one to say the least.
Born on May 11th 1904 in the town of Figueres, Spain, Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dali Domenech received his first oil paint set when he was only 10 years old. He would soon become "one of the greatest masters of art of the twentieth century." (1) The style of Dali's artwork throughout his lifetime, not coincidently, was as dynamic as the landscape surrounding him. His personality, along with the works he produced would prove to have a gigantic impact on the world of art.
At birth, Salvador Dali took on the name of his late older brother, who died in infancy 9 months before Dali was born. He was born the son of a prestigious notary in his hometown of Figueres, in northern Spain. He began taking painting lessons at a very early age, 10, from a then well-known Spanish impressionist painter, Ramon Pichot. He also received his first oil paint set at that age from a German artist by the name of Siegfrid Burmann, who was staying in Spain at the time.
