A trip to the beach. Construction work. A dream house in Miami, Florida. Rigorous outdoor sports. There are many reasons why sun avoidance is simply not a feasible tactic for preventing skin exposure to harmful UVA and UVB radiation. Additionally, even when staying indoors or in the shade, or wearing protective clothing and hats, are available options, many people do not take them. However, one must have some protection from the sun's rays in order to reduce potential for damaging skin cancers, including melanoma. To this end, a sunscreen use campaign would be ideal in not only teaching people about the oncogenic risks of overexposure, but also a defense option that is both practical and extremely effective.
While melanoma is not the most common type of skin cancer, it is certainly the most deadly. Developing in the melanocytes, pigment-producing cells in the skin tissue, melanoma risk greatly increases with the amount of sun exposure received, and can occur at a younger age than many other cancers...
