We find it almost impossible to imagine a world without language. Humans depend on language as it is a vital tool used for communicating information from one person to another. Without language we could not evolve, learn, share, or protect ourselves from danger. Language serves as a mean for conveying important lessons and beliefs which in turn prove to have a profound effect on our way of life. It is language that separates us from the other animals allowing human beings to flourish, and yet we still know little about when and where it began.
The origin of language has been an ongoing debate among scholars for centuries, and will probably go on for many more centuries to come. No one has one clear answer as to when and why humans began to speak. "If language is of value for the survival of a species, as it clearly is, then why has only one species succeeded in acquiring full-blown language?
