"Mountainsare home to one tenth of the world's people." (Oneworld) About half of those people dwelling in the mountains are in the Andes. The Andes mountains have been inhabited since the time of the Incas. They are isolated groups of people, almost completely outside our modern culture. Generations of people have lived in the Andes; families have carried on the mountain lifestyle for hundreds of years. Throughout those years, both their bodies and knowledge have expanded, making life in the mountains easier. However, in these modern times, their mountain life has made them more susceptible to poverty.
The main thing that changed in their body structure throughout the years was their enlarged hearts, lungs, and thicker blood. (Smith) The reason for these changes was due to the fact that, in the mountains, there is not as much oxygen as there is at sea level. This being so, their bodies adapted after a number of years...
