Babette’s Feast is truly a feast—not only does did it fill the stomach of the dinner guests, but it also fills the eyes, ears and minds of the viewers. ... This shows just how much the feast Babette prepared would drastically change their dreary lives. ...
The feast itself is the scene wherein the actual transformation of the lives of the congregation’s members occurs. As previously agreed upon, the community did not comment on the sumptuous and delectable feast prepared by Babette. ... Slowly, one by one, each of the congregation’s members loose their inhibitions and enjoy the wonderful feast. We can also see that the feast was no merely a change in the food they eat, but also a change in their hearts. ... By the end of the feast, they were all friends that forgave each other on their short-comings. The feast also signifies what they missed out on in their lives. The feast showed them that the finer things in life are not to be feared, rather they are to be enjoyed.
