The subject of immigration during the 1920s seems to have extracted several different types of responses from the American people. Immigration was applauded by some and denounced by others, each group having its own reasons. The fact of the matter is that the subject of immigration concerned everyone in the United States, from all classes and all walks of life; the lowly farm hand and the captain of industry, the legislator and the campaigner, the racist and the righteous, everyone had something to say. The new immigration laws passed during the 1920s carried many consequences for the American societies.
Immigration was beginning to get so much attention in the early 1920s as a result of new laws being passed which put quotas on the number of people that would be admitted in a given period of time from any given nationality.
