The Spectacular Achievements of Propaganda
Propaganda plays a role in everyone's life one way or another. It is on the television, the radio, billboards, products in supermarkets, clothing, even in our own heads. The exact definition of propaganda is something along the lines of this; the systematic propagation of a doctrine or cause or of information reflecting the views and or interests of those advocating such a cause or doctrine. That means that every time you see something commercial or anytime you attempt to convince someone of your mentality, it's propaganda. Noam Chomsky, one of the most respected political analysts of our time, has written a book documenting some of the most interesting uses of propaganda in history. This book is part of the Open Media series, called "Media Control: The Spectacular Achievements of Propaganda".
Inside of the book, small by size, is the accurate description of the Creel Commission, the Woodrow Wilson-appointed committee that turned isolationist America into a war-hungry machine. They were his appointed staff for Public Information before the World War, and are notoriously known among political journalists and scientists alike for commonly misleading the public into wanting to battle. Posting ads talking about Patriotism, security, and "truths", they urged the public to support the war, and they did.
Chomsky isn't your average political scientist...
