The stages of hypothermia in the human body: Immediate effects of the cold are your hands become cold. The surface capillaries constrict and retract to the inner organs to keep them warm. The body is letting your hands freeze in order to keep your vital organs warm.
The first stage of hypothermia begins when the body stops moving after heavy activity where the body is producing a lot of heat. What helped the body warm up is now working in the opposite way. The exercise-dialated capillaries carry excess heat of the body's core to the skin, expelling the heat into the air through sweat soaked clothes. The body's core temperature goes from 100.8 back to the normal 98.6 and then begins to plummet.
