I chose to complete my book report on Stephen E. Ambrose's book, D-Day June 6, 1944: The Climactic Battle of World War II. I read the portion of the book that was based upon the preparations, leadership, and determination it took to participate on that heroic day. Ambrose, a World War II historian and Eisenhower biographer, writes about the days before and after June 6, 1944 though the eyes of those that were there to experience its greatness on both sides. This is what makes the book such a join to read, it allows the reader to feel as if they are in the mist of that historic battle.
The portion I read began with the planning and preparing of D-Day. General Eisenhower said that a battle is already won though proper preparations. That is why the plans to attack Germany though France were stirring in the minds of the Allied Forces for a long time. General Eisenhower began drawing out the final plans of attack as early as February of 1944. This attack pattern meant for the Allied Forces to attack Germany though the West, the Atlantic Coast beaches of France, this was known as the "Second Front...
