Chapter One of Walden is called, “economy”. Walden is a first person narration of the events in the life of Henry David Thoreau for the two years he lived in a cottage near Walden Pond. Thoreau shows the reader how he no longer lives at Walden Pond any more, but only lived there in the first place to get away from the evils of the human spirit such as materialism and acquisition. ... Thoreau seeks self-actualization of his life. ...
I can relate to what Thoreau says because it’s real to me. I feel that Thoreau is trying to set himself free from the clusters of everyday life in order to gain and posses more things. ... I want to be more like Thoreau and take time off to reflect on mankind and myself.
