Wilfred Owen
Dulce Et Decorum Est is a poem that was written during WWI by a soldier named Wilfred Owen. Having a less patriotic and glorified view of war, Owen used many linguistic skills and metaphorical references to create a very dramatic effect on the reader.
Using Language that mimics trudging through the mud. "Knock-kneed, coughing like hags, we cursed through the sludge," He also used very jumpy, broken and rough writing with a lot of starting and stopping to try to attain the rhythm of the men. "Men marched asleep. Many had lost their boots, /But limped on, blood-shod." Owen then changes the rhythm at one point make the reader feel panicked. "Gas! GAS! Quick, boys!..
