How are the following areas of science used in forensic studies
This report contains information on the different areas of forensic science, focusing on Genetics, Pathology, Psychology, Microscopy, Entomology and Dentistry. There are also examples of each area of forensics.
Genetics
Genetics is important in forensic science especially in DNA profiling. DNA is a code found in every cell in the body and determines both our physical characteristics and chemical processes in the body. This information in the DNA is different for everyone with the exception of identical twins.
In most crimes DNA profiling is used to prove whether a person was at the scene of a crime. DNA steps include:
1. DNA is extracted from cells and cut out in certain place by an enzyme
2. Sample are then placed in a line in a jelly like substance where an electrical voltage is applied and the small fragments and DNA travel different distances in the gel.
