Guns of the Revolution
Many guns were developed in the sixteen and seventeen hundreds. One of these guns was the flintlock. Flintlock was a firing mechanism used in pistols, muskets, and other firearms from about the sixteen- twenty to the mid- eighteen- hundreds. Flintlock weapons had a piece of flint clamped in a piece called a cock. When the trigger on this weapon was pulled it snapped the cock forward and a piece of flint strikes a piece of steel pivot, creating sparks. While these sparks are lit a small pan filled with gunpowder is exposed theme. These sparks cause the gunpowder to explode and ignite the main charge in the barrel. These guns do have a safety on them, the locks could be halfe way cocked wich would be safe, or fully cocked witch would be ready to fire. These forms of firearms were replaced by percussion caps.
