April 1940
Tasman Empire Airways Limited (TEAL) registered and the first trans-Tasman services began with flying boats.
April 1947
New Zealand government-owned National Airways Corporation (NAC) began domestic operations in New Zealand and regional services to the South Pacific islands.
October 1953
New Zealand and Australian governments became the only shareholders in TEAL, each with 50% interest.
April 1961
New Zealand government became sole owner of the airline.
April 1965
TEAL renamed Air New Zealand.
April 1978
Air New Zealand and NAC merged.
1979
On 28 November an Air New Zealand owned and operated DC-10 crashed on Mount Erebus, Antarctica with the loss of 257 lives.
April 1989
New Zealand government privatised Air New Zealand.
October 1989
Air New Zealand listed shares on the New Zealand Stock Exchange.
January 1991
New organisational structure implemented with the company split into functional business units...
