Nature vs Nurture

The whole Nature and Nurture debate focuses on whether Nature or Nurture has a more important impact on the development of human beings. The Nature side states that everything is inherited biological characteristics and genes. The Nurture side states that everything is learnt through the environment around you. Nurture has a greater effect on human development because it involves our environment that helps shape the way we are and our personality far more than biological characteristics. There are many examples that can explain this but two examples are that traits are influenced by our childhood experiences and the number of genes we have.
Nurture states that traits displayed by adults are influenced by their childhood experiences (Harris, 1998). This tells us that childhood is the most important time for the development of humans because this is the time were we learn the most, such as walking, talking, manners, ethics etc. During the first three years of life, children can only experience life through their five senses. Research shows that infants' negative and positive emotions, and caregivers' responsiveness to them, can help early brain development.
