BUDDHISM
Buddhism, the complex of religious beliefs and philosophical ideas that has developed out of teaching of the Buddha. Buddhism is a fusion of the predominant Hinayana with pristine ancestor and ghost worship, Brahmanism, and Mahayana. Founded by the Buddhist, Siddhartha Gautama, the centre-piece of Buddhist philosophy is based on Gautama's enlightenment. Buddhist thinking does not centre around the veneration of one person, human or divine. Buddha is not god, nor a god-sent mediator, he cannot act as a saviour or redeemer for others, far more important than the person of Buddha is the idea of teaching (dharma). According to the Buddhist understanding this is something timeless, not linked to history or subject to change. In line with the Indian tradition, teaching revealed by Buddha was passed on first of all by word of mouth, having been carefully memorized, only much later was it written down. Buddhism respects the Four Noble Truths and The Eightfold Path:
