Back-stabbing Brother
Edmund is a character that will do almost anything to get what he wants. Edmund
is greedy and feels a need for money and power. He is extremely jealous of his half-
brother Edgar, who is supposed to receive their father's inheritance. He shows no
sympathy toward Edgar or their father Gloucester. Edmund is a very cold and a seemly
heartless character, but at the end of the play he does finally repent.
Edmund is out to get Edgar from the start because he is jealous of Edgar.
Edmund is dishonest and writes a letter about killing their father, and then signs Edgar's
name. Edmund is sly and tricky, but Gloucester is also very gullible and is easily tricked
by Edmund. Edmund does not even feel sorry when Gloucester is heartbroken because he
thinks that one of his sons wants him dead.
Edmund is constantly bothered by the fact that he is an illegitimate son, and he
does anything to get attention from Gloucester...
