Nicaragua has had a long history of US interventions that start as early as 1850's and continue in the early XlX century. In 1979 Nicaragua experienced a Revolution in which the FSLN (Frente Sandinista de Liberacion Nacional) overthrew the Somoza Dictatorship. In the early 1980's the U.S. indirectly intervened in Nicaraguan by giving aid to the counterrevolutionaries that wished to overthrow the FSLN government. What factors led to the US interventions of the 1980's?
Through the use of several primary sources: such as testimonies and excerpts of original documents, I will interpret the historic, economic, and Political reasons for the U.S. indirect intervention that took place in Nicaragua in 1981.
