Three distinct alternate realities are presented in the film "Run Lola Run" (Lola Rennt). While the audience is taken on a wildly vivid chase to save Lola's (Franka Potente) boyfriend Manni portrayed by Moritz Bleibtreu from being killed. Throughout the quest it evolves the film's mood on the relationship between fate, destiny, and the choices we make.
Throughout Run Lola Run, Tykwer's uses inventive camera tricks, which illustrate the story's relationship between fate and determination in 3 segments of Lola attempting to save her boyfriend. The repetition of Lola running through the streets of Berlin is unique, as cameras follow her running to her father to get Manni the money. Quick cuts, high and low angle shots, split-screens, fast and slow motion, animation, still frames are amongst the filmic techniques portrayed.
The different angles of shots, including helicopter and crane shots, reflect the immeasurable perspectives possible at any one time. Particularly prominent are the shots featuring Lola and Manni, in which the frame is split into two, three and four sections. Lola and Manni's points of view are revealed simultaneously.
