Bipolar disorder is a medical condition in which people experience mania and depression with no cure and 1% of the population in North America is diagnosed with it. Bipolar disorder is also known as manic-depressive disorder. If diagnosed with bipolar disorder experiences of episodes of mania and depression will occur lasting a few weeks or months and causing great disturbance in the lives of those affected, their friends and their families.
Bipolar disorder causes extreme moods, from feeling overly energetic (mania) to feeling very sad or having low energy (depression). (Rowett Internet). Symptoms of mania are consisted of feeling exceptionally happy or extremely irritable, inflated self-esteem, not needing as much as sleep as usual (may feel rested after three hours of sleep), talking more than usual, being more active than usual, difficulty concentrating due to having too many thoughts at once, being easily distracted by sights and sounds and acting impulsively or doing reckless things such as going on shopping sprees, getting into foolish business ventures and driving carelessly. Symptoms for depression include slowed thoughts and speech due to low energy, difficulty concentrating, remembering, and making decisions, changes in eating or sleeping habits leading to too much or too little eating and sleeping, decreased interest in usual activities and suicidal thoughts.
