Ways to Overcome Acrophobia
There are a lot of people, young, old, rich, poor, well-known or not, who have suffered from different kinds of phobia and are eager to find a way to cure it. Experts on anxiety suggest that the most effective treatments for acrophobia are behavioral therapy, systematic desensitization, modeling, and role-playing What is phobia and what is normal fear? Everyone experiences general anxiety and specific fears at certain times. Can a person honestly say that he/she will not be terrified during an intense earthquake? What about before undergoing surgery, during a war, etc.? Such fears are perfectly normal. Other people, on the other hand, develop fears that most people would find irrational because they are caused by no real or present danger. These fears are identified as Phobias. Phobia is an extreme, long term fear of specific objects, animals, insects, activities or situations. It is an inappropriate or unreasonable fear that interferes and frustrates a person's everyday performance (Bedford 1)..
