Mass Media One of the most influential mass media that has a great deal of effect on who we are is television. According to Ruggiero, the average teen watches about 11,000 hours in the classroom and 22,000 hours in front of the television. If they spend more time watching television, then they are learning more about who they are by what they are watching then what they are being taught by their teachers and parents. Take for example the two follwing shows: The TV show, "Friends" and Golden Girls have significant differences even though they were only 30 minutes shows. For Friends, the amount of showtime was about 13 minutes and commercials took up about 27 minutes.
