Edward Taylor was a Harvard Minister, who had a lifelong passion for poetry. His best verse can be found in a series called Preparatory Meditations. These poems, written for his own pleasure and never apart of a religious service, followed chiefly upon his preparation for a sermon to be delivered at monthly communion. While doing a critical analysis of his poem "Meditation 8," there are several elements that are revealed in the poem. A general point that one could find in the critical analysis of this poem is an example of figurative language. The most prominent subject evident in the poem is biblical allusions. Taylor uses a metaphor to emphasize the message of his meditation. Because this poem is based from a biblical quote, it's obvious to discuss the biblical aspects, as well as the metaphors and figurative language.
