James Maloney deals with a lot of issues in his novel a Bridge to Wiseman's Cove. Firstly the novel explores the effects of dysfunctional families on children, some characters effected and used to show this are Carl, Harley, Maddy and Beral. Maloney also explores the effect that family history and events have on future generations, this can be seen through the characters of Carl, Harley, Sarah and Beral. Finally the novel deals with the development of identity and the importance of self image in the development of identity. This is conducted thought the characters of Carl, Maddy and Justine. There for this proves that James Maloney has dealt with several key issues in his novel A Bridge To Wiseman's Cove.
The effects of dysfunctional families on children is present throughout the novel. Carl is one of the character that this has the heaviest impact on. His hole family has gone wrong and he really feels the impact, which does not help his already tattered self esteem. The kids all have different fathers and none have them have stayed around to help...
