Introduction
This policy outlines (Co name)Paternity Leave Policy and the procedure to be followed when Paternity Leave is required.
The new statutory right to paternity leave outlined in this policy is available to employees whose children are expected to be born, or are born, on or after 6th April 2003 and supersedes the previous Paternity Leave Policy.
Eligibility
The policy applies to all employees within .. ("the Company"), whether full-time or part-time or on a fixed term contract. This policy does not cover independent consultants and contractors.
To qualify for paternity leave entitlement you must have been continuously employed by the Company for 26 weeks ending with the 15th week before the expected week of childbirth (this is called the qualifying week). You must also be employed from the qualifying week up until the birth of the baby.
Leave Entitlement
Paternity leave is a period of time off work, which is available to new fathers, the spouse or the partner (a person whether of a different sex or the same sex who lives with the mother in an enduring family relationship but is not an immediate relative) of the mother who wish to take time off work to care for the child or support the mother. Paternity leave is not the same as Parental Leave or Time Off for Dependants - please see the separate . policies for details of these entitlements (available on the Intranet)..
