Industrial Economy: The Role of People's Actions in the Great Economy
Acknowledging that there is a Great Economy should be a difficult task to accomplish. When the word "economy" comes to mind, most people think about inflation, interest rates, unemployment, and international relations. They forget to think about values that really matter such as scarcity, limited resources, and environmental questions. In a world where there is a material concern, affluence is more important than well being, and profit by all means is more important than being concerned about how to take advantage of resources without denigrating our nature. The society sees the economy as technological, industrialized, where reducing the costs is essential to obtain success.
However, they forget that before this Industrial Economy, there was (and there still is) a universal economy that brought all the resources that made possible for the Industrial Economy to survive, and to be increasing in magnitude and acceptance. Without this Great Economy, there would not be any industrialized or technological economy. On the other hand, it seems that these two economies are distinct, not agreeing with each other in the sense that the industrialized economy abusively uses the resources of the Great Economy in order to make insurmountable profits and achieve status. If these economies are diverging, so can they converge, and go to the same direction? How would the society benefit from the Great Economy without hurting it?..
