MOVIE REVIEW: "THE MAGDALENE SISTERS"
This film it is a true story, about a few catholic, young girls from Ireland, living
in the 60s', which were locked up without a trial and sentenced to unpaid labor, to
work for a Catholic Asylum for crimes as flirting with boys, becoming pregnant out of
wedlock or being raped. Margaret was raped and send by her family and the village
priest to work there indefinite to pay for her sins. Bernadete is a girl from orphanage
who flirted with boys and send to the same place. Rose was pregnant out of wedlock
and as soon as she had the baby, was forced by her parents to give up the baby girl
for adoption and the parents gave up on Rose and off she goes to the same place.
Crispina, had a child out of wedlock and she is also a little bit mentally handicapped.
In this Catholic Monastery, life is miserable; the girls work in a laundry facility
from dusk till dun, many time being beaten by the nuns. The girls become somehow
friends and they comforter each other few times. Rose is trying few times to escape
without success. The nun in charge is a figure of pure evil names sister Bridget. She
is looking at this girls like her slaves, being there to pay for there sins and bring good
money for the Catholic Church...
