1.0 Abstract
The adoption of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems has had a monumental impact on operations management and supply chain structures. However, this has not been without major and often disastrous complications. This paper identifies two multinational organisations, examining their approaches to ERP implementation and determining the effect ERP has had on each company.
2.0 Introduction
Multinational companies and businesses continue to face numerous challenges, all of which involve working and communicating more closely with customers, whilst simultaneously operating more efficiently, and continuing to produce innovative products and services. The overall goal is to sustain a competitive advantage.
Today, when facing a digital economy, companies, in their quest for a competitive advantage, continue to develop and implement Integrated information systems such as Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP). Cotteleer (2002) suggests 'the market for enterpriselevel software applications in 2001 was estimated at $47 billion, ERP application spend alone accounted for $19 billion.
This paper sets out to examine the implementation of ERP, using two companies, Tektronix and Cisco Systems as case studies, critically comparing and contrasting both approaches, concluding with group learnings and recommendations...
