1. INTRODUCTION
Weight lifting is a sport that involves using muscles, which is body tissue that contracts and allows people to lift things and be mobile. Usually in weightlifting, the person lifting the weight is using some type of free weight, like a barbell, rather than an assisted lifting machine. Weight lifting is becoming more popular each year, yet it still encounters the gender role stereotypes which it most likely always will, especially since research on female and male strength future informs us that "women have two thirds less strength than men" (Adrian,1996,pg.89).
II. BIOLOGICAL THEORIES
The most common and understandable biological theory about weight lifting involves the muscle itself. It has been proven through many studies that men do not have different muscle tissue, but they do have more muscle mass in general.
