The Progressive Thought
There is a movement of sorts, within the mind, outside of the mind a force that drives and directs the human race to perpetual progressivism. It may be the nature of the universe or the physical laws that govern them. Life, it seems, tends toward the more efficient, more skilled, better qualified, more attractive, etc., just as Charles Darwin's theory of evolution would suggest. Darwin's experiments in the Galapagos Islands aided in his theory of evolution (Alland 22). He noticed the abundance of species and used his imagination to express the great diversity. I suggest that it is the imagination, which is the unique and primary ingredient in this idea of perpetual progressivism.
Throughout history, the human race has sought to expand its horizons and advance its technologies. No doubt one can recall the use of horse-drawn carriages, which have now become the ever-available automobile. Mail has become email, candle has become light bulb, and arrows have become bullets...
