Natural: Consists of observing and recording the behavior or organisms in their natural environment. Has the disadvantage of giving little information about why or how behaviors occur. We lean how people adjust to their social surroundings. Directed: Observing behavior under controlled conditions in an experimental or laboratory setting all details can be recorded by a camera or some other devices. This method allows for the control and the events are behaviors. Researchers sing this nethod try to record their data objectively. Case Study: Most used by social workers. Try to get objective descriptions of the background forces that may have influenced an individual’s development.
