Most all women have a universal dream or ideal for their future. Generally, most women are in the pursuit of love, marriage, and happiness. The dream of having a family is universal to these ideals. In the story From A Secret Sorrow by Karen Van Der Zee, Faye's dreams are lost when she learns that she will never be able to give birth to a child. All her hopes and dreams of family, love and happiness seem to evaporate. Faye is left with an immense amount of pain, sadness, and anxiety. Contending with this heartbreaking circumstance is difficult. Faye eventually overcomes this milestone in her life with faith. Faye prevails to be strong and loving but she possesses insecurities. The insecurities she possesses are also revealed through her actions in this story...
