Born in Glasgow, the son of a policeman. He was very famous of the Glasgow Style designers and has become something of a cult figure of international importance. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art when he was fifteen. When he was in his childhood he suffered from disabilities He walked with a limp and developed a problem with his right eye which caused it to droop. Because of these disabilities Charles was encouraged to spend time in the countryside when he was young.A year later he joined John Hutchison architectural practice to train as a draughtsman.
