The Effect Of Size On Uptake By Diffusion.
Introduction:
This experiment is to find out how well diffusion will work if the surface area of a jelly cube was increased.
Hypothesis:
The larger the Surface Area to Volume Ratio the quicker diffusion will happen.
Aim:
To find out how well diffusion will work through jelly, the larger the Surface Area to Volume Ratio.
Method:
I had to cut three cubes out of the agar jelly all different sizes and with different heights of 2 cm, 1 cm and 0.5 cm. I had to try to make sure all the sides were even and were all the same size. I then placed the three cubes in to a 100 cm beaker, coved them with the potassium mangnate solution and left them for 5 minuets. While I waited I calculated the Surface Area, Volume and Surface Area to Volume Ratio for each cube.
After 5 minutes I poured the solution in to another beaker and used the blotting paper to drain off the remaining solution that was on the cubes...
