It was in 1867 when Mark Twain set sail on the pleasure excursion to Europe and the Holy Land which he chronicled in his travel novel, The Innocents Abroad. One hundred and thirty-five years have passed since that voyage. America is now a different America then what Twain lived in. However, his writing still remains relevant to America today. Mark Twain's caricature of the average American that he manifests through his individualistic point of view is still accurate now. In fact, it seems to have become more relevant as American society has progressed. In his writing, Twain artfully exhibits the national pride Americans possess, and he describes the animosity between religions in the Middle East, which has recently flared up. Mark Twain's writing is extremely relevant to our time.
