One of the most tragic events in the early American colonial period was the Boston Massacre. Although most people know what happened at Boston on that day, they do not realize why it happened. They also do not understand the great significance of those people killed on that day. To fully understand what happened in Boston and why it happened you need to know what lead up to the killing and the after effects of the tragedy.
In, what was then a British colony, Boston in 1768 the British army had troops garrisoned there to keep the peace. These troops were there, as the British put it, for conservators of peace. They were not there for any kind of military purposes. Most of the citizens of Boston didn't realize exactly why these soldiers were there. The people looked upon these troops as cruel and mean.
