Win at Any Cost
Coaches are classified into two different categories those that want to win at any cost, and those that try to teach the players sportsmanship, teamwork, and win if possible. The goal of all coaches is to win, but the way a coach approaches this issue determines which category that he/she fits into.
Some coaches will sacrifice themselves and their players to get a valuable win. This philosophy has caused sports to become such a big business. The result of this big business persona has created a monster in the sense that winning is everything and losers will not be employed very long at a university or the professional level. Coaches can be seen at any level ranting and raving up and down the sidelines cursing at the players and the officials to get the outcome that will help their team win.
I have even witnessed on different occasions coaches sacrificing a players health in order to put their team in position to win. After four weeks of football, the Minnesota Vikings had four wins to no losses. The quarterback Daunte Cullpepper had suffered a back injury during the fourth game of the season...
