CHARACTERIZATION
Memento is a weird movie with weird characters because it happens backwards. Peoples motives are hidden until the next scene or the scene after that. Memento is definitely a story that is not crafted to suit an actor it is a rather dark and mentally disturbing story which the director found suitable actors for. Its characters are horrifyingly reminiscent of noir movies and old Alfred Hitchcock stories. There is evidence of unclearness or a darkness to each character. The strange style of narrative further increases viewer tension by hiding the motives of each character. I felt a strong sense that I was actually learning each person like in real life there is no foreshadowing of characters characterestics except for Lenny. The narrative takes two parrallel forms, one where the main character is telling the story and one where he is the point of view. Leonard, the main character and the narrator is a person with a mental condition that begs us to question his judgement of people. This open-ended characterization leaves us to make decisions and does not spoon-feed us a stereotypical image of characters...
