Appearance means everything in today's society, which unfortunately compels the average person to seek extreme methods in order to be viewed as attractive. This new "As Seen On TV" look, backed by the media, is in many cases only achieved by a strict diet and exercise or cosmetic surgery. Placing such high standards on thin, almost emaciated bodies is starting to pay a price. Liposuction is the new way of losing weight quick and easy. "Because of the rising economy, cosmetic surgery is now more affordable-which creates great demand for such services". With prices falling, and procedures becoming less risky we are faced with the dilemma: Is unnecessary liposuction a moral way to lose weight (PLASTIC SURGERY 1)? Liposuction, also known as "suction lipectomy" or "lipoplasty", is currently the most popular cosmetic procedure in North America. This type of surgery can be completed in a few hours and works best on people of normal weight with specific areas of fatty deposits. These aspects of the operation give it a false sense of ease and safety, which gives this issue positive and negative sides. Consisting of moral and medical controversy, places the question in the minds of many: Why can't today's society be satisfied with the body shape with which they were born (Driedger 1)?..
