After reading the short story by Herman Melville, Bartleby the Scrivener, I felt that this would be the right story for me to use. The story starts out rather slow with the introduction of the characters and the scenario in which Bartleby would soon be placed. I found the story to be somewhat confusing because of the fact that Bartleby did not really have a purpose. ...
After I read the commentaries, I believe that Bartleby is the impersonation of death within life, or as we discussed in class, an empty shell in an office of live wires. Figuring out that Bartleby worked in a Dead Letter Office, which is where the letters go if they are lost or the person that was supposed to receive the letters has died, it was now more clear why he may have acted the way he did.
